Signal Corps Sleeve Insignia

In 1858, the Army expressed interest in Albert J. Myer’s system, and after extensive testing, the United States Signal Corps was born, with Myer appointed as major and chief signal officer. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Myer was tasked with recruiting and training officers and establishing schools of instruction. By the end of the war, the Signal Corps consisted of almost 300 officers and 2,500 soldiers.

Device on Arm: Crossed signal flags, red and white, on dark blue cloth
Size of flags: Three-fourths of an inch square; center, one-quarter of an inch square; length of staff, three inches. Sergeants will wear the designation of the corps placed in the angle of the chevron upon the left sleeve; Privates will wear the designation of the corps in the same position on the left sleeve as the chevron of sergeants.
Requisition can be made upon this Bureau by Signal Officers in charge of detachments or sub-detachments of the corps for such number as may be required for their commands.

The sleeve insignia is approximately 3 inches high and 3 inches wide.  Insignia can be trimmed to fit above any chevrons.
