This is the Indian Wars pistol cartridge pouch for the M1873.  Nearly identical to the American Civil War Cap Box, except with US in oval embossed on the flap.  This economical cap box features an interior lining, brass finial, 2 belt loops on the back and is sewn in white thread.

Started life as a Civil War pattern pouch, was probably unissued, and was then recycled for use during the Indian Wars era. They originally had a wood block to hold the cartridges, but most troopers took them out so the cartridge box would hold a few more cartridges.

The 1840 non commissioned sword was carried by American soldiers for over 70 years; a period which included the Mexican War, Civil War and Spanish American War.

This 1840 Non Commissioned Sword is a fine reproduction sword, is a faithful copy of the originals used and is collector grade. The single edged blade has a single broad fuller running from the ricasso to near the point. The entire hilt is cast brass and the grip is ribbed. Pommel is global with a capstan. Grip is flanked by kidney-shaped hand guards. NCO sword comes with a steel scabbard. The blade is unsharpened and the scabbard is made for a NCO style belt.  Will not attach to a standard saber belt.

Befitting their rank, this sword displays a high degree of ornamentation. The brass guard has hand chased foliage and "U.S." between the branches. Lee, carried this sword in the Indian campaigns. Brass pommel, scabbard is blue steel.

The brass, 3-branch guard is nicely hand chased and engraved, as is the brass pommel. Blade is beautifully etched with “U.S.,” and “E Pluribus Unum,” along with foliage and military trophies. Steel scabbard has brass throat, rings and drag.

Of all the Confederate swords and sabers this one was the one used most. Wielded by the troops under the command of J.E.B. Stuart, Wade Hampton, and Nathan Bedford Forrest, this saber dispatched horsed of Yankee soldiers. This is a very distinctive saber with a brass guard similar to that of the 1860 Light Cavalry Saber.

This saber is a fine reproduction and a faithful copy of the originals used. The hand forged blade is British military spec fully tempered 1095 high carbon steel. The brown leather grip is wrapped with brass wire and the pommel and guard are brass. The blade has the classic Confederate "unstopped" fuller. The J.E.B. Stuart Sword Hanger became a standard cavalry issue throughout the Civil and Indian Wars, up to 1900. Prior to the onset of the Civil War, J.E.B. Stuart did not like the design of the sword hangers used at that time, so he designed and patented his own style of hanger. His device enabled the cavalryman to remove the sword, scabbard, and belt slings entirely without unhooking the scabbard from the belt and leaving the straps swinging loose from the belt rig.

The Civil War Blakeslee Spencer Quick Loader Cartridge Box is designed for the Spencer Carbine. Because of the rapid speed that a Spencer carbine could be fired, a special box needed to be designed to hold cartridges for loading. Erasmus Blakeslee patented this box late in 1864. U.S. Government contracts for over 30,000 boxes were delivered to the War Department but few were used in the Civil War due to time delays of production and distribution.

This box contains 6 tin tubes encased in a bored wood block. The wood block is wrapped in smooth black bridle leather with a hinged leather lid to protect the open tops of the tin tubes from the elements. The box is worn over the shoulder on the left side. The leather shoulder strap attached to the box holds the device close to the trooper's left side. This arrangement allows the soldier to reach across with his right hand, flip open the 'Quickloader' box lid, draw out a single magazine tube filled with seven cartridges and insert the bullets into the stock of the Spencer weapon. The box has an implement pouch just like the originals, include the shoulder sling, and has a belt loop on the back.

Available for EITHER .44-40 ammunition OR .56-50 ammunition.  The .44-40 will fit .45 Long Colt ammunition. 

The box is available in black leather only and measures approximately 13 inches longs and 2 inches by 3 inches wide.

Chief of Ordnance, General Alexander Dyer, designed the cartridge box needed to carry the ammunition needed by the single action Colt revolvers issued during the late 1800's. The .45 cal cartridges could be easily carried and accessed with this new design.

The M1876 McKeever Box is used with the 45/70 rifle or carbine during the Indian Wars. It is made of high quality black leather with a US in oval embossed on the flap. The flap closure has a brass finial. There are two belt loops on the back. Inside are 2 rows of ten canvas loops for 20 cartridges. The box opens by folding down on a brass hinge. The box is available in Black or Russet leather.

The Nipple Protector, also called a Snapcap, is used to protect the musket nipple and hammer from damage during an accidental dry-fire. The square socket fits over the square lug military nipple. This Carbine Socket is made of high quality American leather. The Carbine Socket was designed to hold the barrel of a trooper's carbine snugly while riding on his mount. This pattern of Carbine socket continued in service after the Civil War and into the Indian Wars through the early 1880’s until replaced by the Carbine Boots. Available in Black leather only.

Issued with each cavalry saddle, the Carbine Socket buckled to the “offside” or right “D” ring of the saddle’s quarter straps. The carbine was carried by the trooper suspended from the sling worn across his body attached to the carbine by the snap swivel. When the trooper was mounted, the barrel of his carbine was fed into the socket attached to his saddle and so arranged, kept the muzzle of his carbine under control, and prevented it from slapping against the side of the horse.

This bugle is correct for the Civil War period. It is used by both CS and US forces. The bugle is made of brass. It is about 11" long.

Rattles had multiple military and non-military uses during the Civil War. Used by watchmen, lighthouse keepers, policemen, firemen they produced NOISE to raise alarm.

Battle Rattles were specified in the 1860 Ordnance Instructions for the United States Navy Article 521 Page 152 RATTLES FOR CALLING BOARDERS.

A thin wooden spring is attached to the heavy wooden body. The spring's free end rests on the ratchet wheel attached to the handle shaft. When rattle is spun the  spring repeatedly snaps against the ratchet wheel producing a VERY LOUD noise. Made from Poplar and Oak woods. 

The rattle body measures approximately 10 3/4" x 3" x 1 1/2". The handle measures about 8 1/2". The rattle is hand rubbed with linseed oil.

Camp Floyd and the Utah War was used as a strategy by both the Northern and Southern states to divert the nation's attention from states rights and slavery issues. 3500 Union troops, about 1/3 of the entire U.S. Army was dispatched to Utah to suppress a rumored rebellion. President James Buchanan believed restoring order to Utah would unite the Democrats and Republicans and the Northerners and Southerners. John Floyd was the Secretary of War . He and other southern Democrats intended to divert Union troops to the West, deplete the U.S. Treasury by millions of dollars by giving out government contract for the move to southern businessmen, and encourage western support for southern stats rights. Camp Floyd was built in 1858 Fairfield, Utah. The army was recalled in 1861 for the Civil War. There was never a rebellion nor war in Utah.
