The 1858 Army Regulations called for Generals and Staff Officers Trousers to be of Dark Navy Blue wool and to be plain without any piping or cording down the outside seam. The 1861 Army Regulations revised the Staff Officer trouser to have a 1/8 inch metallic gold cording down the outside seam of each leg.

Heel Plates helped prevent the infantry man's heel leather from wearing out due to the amount of marching.

These heel plates are patterned from the originals found at the Corinth Mississippi Battlefield. The heel plates are made of high quality steel, with counter sunk holes and are sold in pairs. 6 flat head, slotted, screws are included and are correct for the period.

C&C Sutlery does not install Heel Plates. Installation is simple. Position the heel plate over the heel, mark the 3 holes using a pencil, drill a hole narrower and shorter than the screw. Install screws using a screwdriver.

We do not install heel plates on boots and shoes. Heel plates are not recommended for those who wear their boots and shoes mainly inside. If you have heel plates and plan to attend an indoor event, cover your heel plates with duct tape to prevent both slipping and marring the floors.

The M1872 US regulation spurs were the standard spurs issued to enlisted cavalry and horse artillery during the Indian War . These spurs were similar to the Model 1859 and Model 1885

The spurs are made of cast brass with steel rowels. The Type 1 have the FLAT heel strap. The shank comes off the top of the strap and goes almost straight back to the rowel.

The J.E.B. Stuart Sword Hanger became a standard cavalry issue throughout the Civil and Indian Wars, up to 1900. Prior to the onset of the Civil War, J.E.B. Stuart did not like the design of the sword hangers used at that time, so he designed and patented his own style of hanger. His device enabled the cavalryman to remove the sword, scabbard, and belt slings entirely without unhooking the scabbard from the belt and leaving the straps swinging loose from the belt rig.

In 1876, the US Army adopted the Prairie Cartridge belt to meet the needs of soldiers in the field. This belt is designed to hold .45 cal rounds for the .45 "Long" Colt. It will also hold .45-70 cal rounds and measures 52-inches in overall length. The belt holds up to 50 rounds. It is available in White with Black leather. 

Will fit 40-inch to 52-inch waist.

This is the Indian Wars pistol cartridge pouch for the M1873.  Nearly identical to the American Civil War Cap Box, except with US in oval embossed on the flap.  This economical cap box features an interior lining, brass finial, 2 belt loops on the back and is sewn in white thread.

Started life as a Civil War pattern pouch, was probably unissued, and was then recycled for use during the Indian Wars era. They originally had a wood block to hold the cartridges, but most troopers took them out so the cartridge box would hold a few more cartridges.

The M1874 Dyer cartridge pouch is used with the 45/70 rifle or carbine during the Indian Wars. It is made of high quality black leather with a US in oval embossed on the flap. The flap closure has a brass plate and finial. There are two belt loops on the back. It is lined with lambs wool. The pouch is available in Black or Russet leather. Color selection will be available on the Shopping Cart page.

Chief of Ordnance, General Alexander Dyer, designed the cartridge box needed to carry the ammunition needed by the single action Colt revolvers issued during the late 1800's. The .45 cal cartridges could be easily carried and accessed with this new design.

The M1876 McKeever Box is used with the 45/70 rifle or carbine during the Indian Wars. It is made of high quality black leather with a US in oval embossed on the flap. The flap closure has a brass finial. There are two belt loops on the back. Inside are 2 rows of ten canvas loops for 20 cartridges. The box opens by folding down on a brass hinge. The box is available in Black or Russet leather.

The Civil War Blakeslee Spencer Quick Loader Cartridge Box is designed for the Spencer Carbine. Because of the rapid speed that a Spencer carbine could be fired, a special box needed to be designed to hold cartridges for loading. Erasmus Blakeslee patented this box late in 1864. U.S. Government contracts for over 30,000 boxes were delivered to the War Department but few were used in the Civil War due to time delays of production and distribution.

This box contains 6 tin tubes encased in a bored wood block. The wood block is wrapped in smooth black bridle leather with a hinged leather lid to protect the open tops of the tin tubes from the elements. The box is worn over the shoulder on the left side. The leather shoulder strap attached to the box holds the device close to the trooper's left side. This arrangement allows the soldier to reach across with his right hand, flip open the 'Quickloader' box lid, draw out a single magazine tube filled with seven cartridges and insert the bullets into the stock of the Spencer weapon. The box has an implement pouch just like the originals, include the shoulder sling, and has a belt loop on the back.

Available for EITHER .44-40 ammunition OR .56-50 ammunition.  The .44-40 will fit .45 Long Colt ammunition. 

The box is available in black leather only and measures approximately 13 inches longs and 2 inches by 3 inches wide.

The 1840 non commissioned sword was carried by American soldiers for over 70 years; a period which included the Mexican War, Civil War and Spanish American War.

This 1840 Non Commissioned Sword is a fine reproduction sword, is a faithful copy of the originals used and is collector grade. The single edged blade has a single broad fuller running from the ricasso to near the point. The entire hilt is cast brass and the grip is ribbed. Pommel is global with a capstan. Grip is flanked by kidney-shaped hand guards. NCO sword comes with a steel scabbard. The blade is unsharpened and the scabbard is made for a NCO style belt.  Will not attach to a standard saber belt.

The blade is 31 3/4 inches long.

The hand forged blade is British military spec fully tempered 1065 high carbon steel that will flex over 20 degrees and return to true. The leather handle is wire wrapped and the pommel and guard is brass. This saber is collector grade. The blade is unsharpened.

The Inspectors Mark on the blade reads "US, ADK, 1862". The other side of the blade is marked "AMES MFG CO, CHICOPEE, MASS"

This saber features a 35" long, curved blade superbly designed for thrusting and slashing. Comes complete with a stout steel scabbard. Overall length is 41".

Befitting their rank, this sword displays a high degree of ornamentation. The brass guard has hand chased foliage and "U.S." between the branches. The blade is etched with foliage, military trophies, "U.S.", "E Pluribus Unum" and "Iron Proof." During the years before the war, many Confederate officers, including General Robert E. Lee, carried this sword in the Indian campaigns. Brass pommel, scabbard is blue steel.

The blade is 30" long, overall length is 35".

The hand forged blade is British military spec fully tempered 1065 high carbon steel. The leather handle is wire wrapped and the pommel and guard is brass. The blade is unsharpened. This saber is collector grade.

The brass, 3-branch guard is nicely hand chased and engraved, as is the brass pommel. Blade is beautifully etched with “U.S.,” and “E Pluribus Unum,” along with foliage and military trophies. Steel scabbard has brass throat, rings and drag.

The blade is 33" long, 1 1/8" wide, and 3/16" thick. It weighs 2 pounds 3 oz. Overall length is 39". Scabbard weight is 1 pound 10 oz.

Issued with each cavalry saddle, the Carbine Socket buckled to the “offside” or right “D” ring of the saddle’s quarter straps. The carbine was carried by the trooper suspended from the sling worn across his body attached to the carbine by the snap swivel. When the trooper was mounted, the barrel of his carbine was fed into the socket attached to his saddle and so arranged, kept the muzzle of his carbine under control, and prevented it from slapping against the side of the horse.

The Cavalry Crupper is made of high quality American leather. Adjustable for correct length using two straps with buckles that attach to the saddle cantle rings. Available in black leather. Russet leather is available by special order.

This 6 shot, .44 caliber round, 8" long barrel percussion revolver became very popular with mounted troops and went on to be the issued sidearm for the US Army for many years. 

This revolver features a steel backstrap and brass trigger guard.

The Kepi Cord is made of Gold Bullion Thread and features different styles. The kepi cord is fully adjustable.

Used on officer kepis during the civil war for CS, and was also seen on US officer kepis for dressed events. Their use was continued on kepis during the Indian War for officers and for enlisted to dress up their kepi.  Other styles and colors are an option if you have something specific in mind.

1st Cavalry Hat Pin Indian War.

From 1866 to 1872, various companies from the 1st Cavalry Regiment were involved in numerous skirmishes involving Indians during the American Indian Wars throughout the west. From 1866 to 1868, they operated in Oregon, Idaho Territory, Nevada, and California fighting the Snake War. The insignia is made of brass and has a wire back for attaching to the hat.

The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment that was formed in 1866. Its official nickname is "Garryowen", after the Irish air "Garryowen" which was adopted as its march tune. The insignia is made of brass and has a wire back for attaching to the hat.

1890 Indian Wars Era "USS" United States Army Native American Indian “Scout” Hat Insignia with back attachment, measures 2 1/2” x 1 1/2”, likely of brass metal. Insignia has two Crossed Arrows with a large “USS” at top, with mounting pins on back. In

1866, General Order No. 56 was published calling for the enlistment of Indians as Army scouts. Indian Scouts were organized into permanent companies and attached to Regular US Army regiments. Indian scout companies' officers were white skinned, while the enlisted personnel (including NCOs) were Native American Indians.
